Big Girl Food
cereal schmereal. bring on the substance. SO...claire and mom spent the morning making homemade baby food. after a trip to the market for some organic goodies, it was time to cook. we made acorn squash, butternut squash, and will be making apples later this week. WHAT A HIT! this kid loved the acorn squash. not sure about the butternut, as we are waiting a few days to introduce it in case of any allergic reactions. the excitement, however, is building, and we will keep you posted.
Six BEAUTIFUL Months
can you believe it? six months old...already and another great report from the doc. i was surprised to find that claire dropped from the 75th percentile to the 50th, gaining only 6 oz weighing in at 16 lbs 11 oz. i guess it makes sense being that she is in CONSTANT motion. claire has been trying quite hard to crawl. she is able to get up on all fours, but after that she is lost. she resorts to scooting backward, dragging herself forward, or rolling over and over and over. i think she would rather skip the crawling and go straight to walking, as she prefers to be upright. claire loves having sisters, being outdoors, driving her car, being tickled, jumping on the bed (with a little help), sitting at the table in her highchair, listening to music, toys that light up and make sound (yippee), cooking with mom and dad, rain showers, the feel of different textures on her hands and feet (rough concrete on her feet is her fave), smiling, grabbing for anything and everything she can reach, long baths, and she is still trying to decide between pink and lavender. she dislikes having her face washed after meals (still), being strapped in the car seat, getting dressed right after a bath, and well...that's about it. claire has amazing disposition, and is truly the most joyful soul i have ever known. people often comment on how happy she is, and her dad always says, "she has no reason not to be". well, neither do we really.

Always a Good Morning
this is what i get to see every morning and after every nap. i assume she dreams about ponies and rainbows and milkshakes. that's enough to make any girl smile. maybe it's waking up in her own pink palace. i don't know for sure, but i know i love it.
First Cereal Feeding
this child was ready for something a little more substantial, so organic brown rice cereal it was! we were in oklahoma city visiting grandma because she wasn't feeling well. mom, dad, and grandpa were there, and grammy and aunt mary came from tulsa. of course, after the first bite claire was hooked. she lunged for the spoon and, after almost a week of feedings, thinks she should be able to feed herself. the whole process is quite messy as mom is still trying to figure it all out. now it is time to test my skills at making homemade baby food. on the menu for next week: sweet potatoes. YUM!
I've Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates...
Yummy!
She Found Her Feet
Five Months Old
jaye says that when you are having a great time that time flies, and boy is he right. five months old already and a great time is being had by all. claire continues to be such a joy. she is truly the most happy and content baby. everyday i'm amazed at how much she is changing. she is learning so many new things and mastering the not-so-new ones. she is rolling over like crazy and really wanting to crawl. she loves standing upright, which has made her car walker a big hit. she loves to be outside. she loves toys that sing and ANYTHING that lights up. she's a huge fan of her grandparents and sissies. she still loves the color pink, although the consensus is that her best shade is lavender. she loves to be tickled and will give you the most fantastic laugh if you get the right spot. people tell me all the time that she's such a lucky girl, but i know that they have it wrong...i'm the lucky one.
Playtime at the Park
we have explained to claire that you can't be a taylor if you don't love the outdoors, and i'm happy to report that she loves to be outside. we do the park often but just started trying the swing. the pics don't show it, but she had great fun. (recognize the spot behind me?) that's mcbirney mansion where mom and dad were married.

Four Big Months
back to the doc for shots (yuck!) and a weigh in. claire leveled out this month only gaining 9 ounces. she is up to 14 pounds 11 ounces putting her back in the 75th percentile. she did cross the 2 feet barrier, measuring 24 1/2 inches. maybe by the end of the year she will be tall enough for the bumper cars. claire continues to grow and let me tell you, she is one happy girl. she wakes up smiling, smiles all day, and goes to bed smiling - only it's not just her face. her entire body smiles...her eyes get brighter, she throws her head back, she brings her hands together, she kicks her legs, and her body shakes. that smile will take your worst day and turn it into your best in the blink of an eye. SO...for all of our fans...here's some free therapy.
